I chose all of these images because of their aesthetics as well as how they fit into my life. I am drawn towards clean lines and the incorporations of text overlay and great photography. I like geometric shapes, but I also like hand lettering and organic form.
I believe that typography is one of the most important elements of graphic design, and can convey the tone and feeling that a designer or brand is trying to set for their client or consumer. My aesthetic influences tend to skew on the minimalistic side. I like balance, symmetry and neutral colors. I like playing on simple fonts or images and elevating them.
I think the balance between very apparent and strong font and imagery that allows the viewer to create their own context is highly effective, like with the Darling Magazine cover. The font is strong and clean. It clearly states what issue it is, as well as the magazine’s mission statement. The image, however, allows the viewer to set the scene and create their own backstory for the cover, knowing that it is geared towards strong, independent women.
To me, type and shape is the most important part of design, and determines what products and services I gravitate towards.
